Wi-Fi on Japan's Bullet Train Vs Wi-Fi on Boston's Commuter Train

Japan : Starting in March 2009, passengers on Japan’s super fast bullet trains, N700-type, will be able to log on to the Internet while traveling at 270 kilometers per hour. With connections speeds of 2Mbps, commuters can enjoy Internet access while traveling be it for business or entertainment. to use this service, commuters would be able to pay ¥500 (US$5.73) per day, or ¥1,680($19.25) for a monthly subscription.this service is a part of the NTT communications HotSpot service efforts being deployed across Japan.



Boston : other side of the world, WAAV and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) are now installing the AirBox X2 in order to deliver free Wi-Fi on their commuter trains for customers, only this service is free. The Wi-Fi will be using a 3G connection. The project will be completed sometime in 2009.

Alltel has announced a GPS application for the Motorola V3A, V3C, V3M, V9M and K1M, the Samsung Muse, LG AX656 and AX8600, the BlackBerry Curve 8330 and the BlackBerry Pearl 8110.

Citibank Kore Inc. releases Mobile Banking Service in English

good news for foreigner in Korea. Citibank Korea Inc (CKI) launches VM mobile banking service in english that includes various financial services such as tranfers/inquiry, FX rate inquiry, loan inquiry and GIRO payment, as well as credit card inquiry and CA service.
To use this service, user must have a cellphone equipped for wireless internet, and then must download a program. For existing users of CKI Internet banking can apply for the service via internet banking without having to visit a branch to download the program. For new customers need to visit a branch to use the service

Logic3 has launched "i-Station25" a portable speaker with twiter for Apple iPhone and iPod. the divice has four 40mm speakers (can deliver 8 watts RMS) and equipped TDMA noise distortion.
The i-Station 25 also equipped an accelerometer that will adjust the output of the speakers to output at the correct left and right separation when users turn it 90 degrees to better view photos or videos stored on their connected Apple device.
The i-Station25 is available in the UK market now, priced at the equivalent of about $102.

LG Develops LTE handset Modem chip, reached 100Mbps of ownload speeds and 50Mbps of upload speeds

LG Electronics announced that has independently developed the first handset (user equipment) modem chip, based on 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology standards. The modem chip theoretically support wireless download speeds of 100 Mbps and upload speed of 50 Mbps. It is about 17 times faster than HSDPA technology.

MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited) -an Indian operator- has launched 3G services and automatically MTNL become the first Indian service provider to commercially launch 3G services.
the first, the 3G services will launch in Delhi. Mumbai launch will take place in around two months time.

Mobile Phone without Recharging

sometimes, I dream to have a mobilephone that never needs to be plugged into my wall socket (essentially can charge itself). it's based on my experience when charging my cellphone requires a fairly long time and it's a wasting time .
but now i can smile. it's caused by intel. yes, intel is trying to make that a reality. now, intel is researching technology to harvest free energy from the environment, which could lead to devices such as mobile phones running for indefinite periods without recharging.

developing sign language for cell phones

a team of researchers from University of Washington- supported mainly by grants from the National Science Foundation- plan to develop a software (with processing power great enough to support real-time, two-way video on cell phones that allow signing communication) that would help the deaf and hard-of-hearing making conversation on mobile phone.the project was called MobileASL (American Sign Language).
The main hindrance in archieving a system is low data-transmission rates on U.S. cellular networks and limited processing power on mobile devices which make visuals and sign impossible to follow. the team is working around this by increasing the bit rate around the face and hands, while slowing it down for the surroundings that do not matter too much.
(People are already able to use sign language effectively in Japan and Sweden because of higher bandwidth networks).

The MobileASL project is led by principal investigator Eve Riskin, a University of Washington professor of electrical engineering. Co-leaders include Information School professor Jacob Wobbrock and Richard Ladner, a longtime professor of Computer Science and Engineering.

Unlocking iPhone 3G

It seems that the 3G iPhone was equipped with the latest software update version 2.2 should not be more in-Warlock. But in Vietnam -in One of Tuan Anh Do's shops on Nguyen Du street, the magic happends -a brand new iPhone 3G getting its hardware unlocked-.
appeared to have some Phases to unlocked iPhone 3G. Find out immediately!
1. opened up the phone and stripped it to the motherboard
2. then remove/extract the baseband chip (the components that control the relationship between the iPhone with the mobile network)
3. Use a chip reader to read / move the information in the chip into a file
4. Use the hex editor to remove the data files are locked in
5. reprogramming the chip with the newly altered file
6. reassembled The chip into the motherboard
7. The last step, put the phone back together

Telefónica O2 UK has launched of an energy efficient universal mobile phone charger. this charger was claimed cutting energy consumption by as much as 70 per cent compared to standard mobile phone chargers.
The O2 Universal Charger contains a power control system that considerably reduces charge the battery is fully charged even if the charger is left switched on in a plug socket.

Surgeon Amputates Using Texted Instructions

a british surgeon volunteering in The Republic Democratic of Congo --David Nott, 52, a general and vascular surgeon at Chelsea and Westminster hospital-- followed texted instructions to perform an amputation that saved a 16-year-old boy's life.
events that occur when David Nott saw the injury of a 16-year old boy in the town of Rutshuru. The teenager's left arm had been so badly injured and infected-- either in an accident or as a result of the fighting between Congolese and rebel troops-- that it had already had to be amputated. The problem was that it was an operation David Nott had never performed. But he remembered that one of his colleagues at home had carried out the procedure then he contacted his colleagues via phone text, "and he texted back step-by-step instructions," the guardian reports
"I texted him and he texted back step-by-step instructions. Even then I had to think long and hard about whether it was right to leave a young boy with only one arm in the middle of this fighting. But in the end he would have died without it, so I took a deep breath and followed the instructions to the letter." David Nott said.

an operation would ideally have been carefully planned and prepped, but in this case David Nott had just one pint of blood and an elementary operating theatre. Despite the basic conditions, the operation was a success and the teenager made a full recovery.
